Irkutsk, 15th August

And so to Russia.  Contrary to expectation, our entry was the smoothest yet.  Polite, interested and friendly border guards and an efficient system.  Handshakes all round as we set off.  And buying car insurance compared favourably with the equivalent process in the UK.

We got in late to Russia, so had to find a place to crash quickly. We ended up in Rubtsovsk, a run down Siberian border town, in a strange hotel with an even stranger 24 hour restaurant and bowling alley attached.  Grub was good and beer was cold, which was all that mattered at midnight.  Midnight dinners have become the norm on the trip.  We try and have a decent breakfast, eat on the go for lunch (You're not that hungry sitting on your backside all day) and since we finish so late its grub where you can grab it.
